Downloads Detective 1.0.0
=========================

First public release
--------------------
- Promoted Downloads Detective to v1.0.0 as the first public Friction Tamer release.
- Includes verified duplicate and copied-folder detection, near/contained folder review, verified ZIP-to-folder matching, installer families and prioritised cleanup review.
- Keeps cleanup conservative: verified duplicate cleanup re-checks before recycling, destructive actions use the Windows Recycle Bin, and supported move/rename actions can be undone.
- Includes Normal/Deep scanning, instant navigation caching, configurable navigation hotkeys, Fast Rescans, the Download Naming Assistant, Browser Companion and tray/background operation.
- Release quality gate remains 146 regression scenarios plus BrowserHost self-test, published-EXE smoke testing, 24-check real-WPF UI QA and customer-package validation.
- The verified customer ZIP can publish directly to the Friction Tamer R2 download bucket when the existing local deployment credentials are configured.

Enter / double-click folder behavior
------------------------------------
- Swapped the primary result activation behavior: Enter now performs the in-app scan/drill action for selected folders.
- Pressing Enter on an empty folder shows the existing "Empty folder" information popup.
- Double-click now opens the selected folder/item normally through Windows rather than scanning into it.
- Group/detail behavior follows the same swap: Enter keeps the previous in-app result action, while double-click is consistently the normal Windows open action.

Navigation polish and tab hotkeys
---------------------------------
- Double-clicking an empty folder now shows an "Empty folder" information popup instead of falling through to normal shell-open behavior.
- Folder scans and navigation now retain the currently selected result filter tab instead of reverting to All findings.
- Added configurable Previous filter tab / Next filter tab hotkeys under Settings > Hotkeys. Defaults are Ctrl+PageUp and Ctrl+PageDown, with wrap-around navigation.
- Alt+Up from the Windows Downloads root now shows an OK/Cancel warning before leaving Downloads. The warning includes "Don't ask again this session"; suppression is deliberately memory-only and resets when the app restarts.
- Existing Shift+S / Ctrl+D hotkeys and text-entry suppression remain unchanged.
- v0.3.20 instant folder-navigation caching remains intact.

Instant folder navigation
-------------------------
- Added an in-memory navigation result cache keyed by folder, scan mode and active scan thresholds. Once a folder/mode view has been scanned, returning to it restores the complete findings and summary immediately instead of rebuilding inventory.
- Added recursive filesystem-change watching for cached roots. File/folder create, delete, rename, size and write changes invalidate affected cached views automatically.
- Cache safety is conservative: if a location cannot be watched reliably or a watcher reports an overflow/error, cached views are treated as dirty and the app rescans rather than trusting stale results.
- Manual Rescan/F5, index rebuilds and successful file operations bypass/clear the navigation cache so explicit refreshes always read current disk state.
- The existing persistent Fast Rescan index still handles fingerprints/SHA-256 reuse; the new navigation cache complements it by eliminating repeated inventory work while moving back and forth through unchanged folders.
- Regression coverage is now 146 scenarios, including navigation-cache reuse and filesystem-change invalidation.

Navigation and automatic scanning
---------------------------------
- Downloads Detective now scans the selected folder automatically when the app opens.
- Changing the Normal/Deep scan mode automatically cancels any current pass and restarts in the selected mode; the mode dropdown stays usable while scanning.
- Folder drill-down now has complete navigation: double-click scans into a folder, Alt+Up scans the parent folder, and Ctrl+D returns directly to the Windows Downloads folder.
- Added configurable hotkeys under Settings > Hotkeys. Defaults are Shift+S to toggle Normal/Deep and Ctrl+D to return to Downloads.
- Configurable hotkeys are deliberately ignored while keyboard focus is in a text-entry control, so Shift+S still types a capital S in Search, Folder and other text fields.
- The old Scan Downloads button is now labelled Rescan because normal navigation and mode changes already scan automatically.

Smarter folder/package review
-----------------------------
- Added content-verified near-duplicate folder detection for substantial top-level folder overlap. Results show both file-count similarity and byte similarity, plus changed/only-on-one-side comparison rows.
- Added contained-folder detection: every meaningful file in the smaller folder must exist at the same relative path with identical SHA-256 content in the larger folder. Containment remains review-only because path usage cannot be inferred safely.
- Added verified ZIP ↔ extracted-folder detection. Exact ZIP extraction is proven from archive entries, relative paths, sizes and SHA-256; mismatches and unsupported archive formats remain clearly labelled REVIEW candidates.
- Added root installer version-family grouping with numeric filename-version ordering. Architecture stays part of family identity (x86/x64/ARM64 are not mixed). This is deliberately filename-based and does not assume older installers are safe to remove.
- Folder-similarity hashing is reused within the current scan as well as through the optional persistent Fast Rescan index.
- ZIP folder traversal now skips reparse-point directories.

Daily review UX
---------------
- Added a prioritised Review tab that sorts strongest/highest-value opportunities first.
- Added pale-green highlighting for content-verified evidence and pale-amber highlighting for near/contained folder relationships, plus an on-screen legend; cleanup eligibility remains a separate explicit signal.
- Added a Similarity column.
- Group Details now contains a Comparison tab for near-duplicate/contained folders and archive verification results.
- Potential cleanup wording now explicitly includes verified duplicates, verified extracted ZIPs and stale incomplete downloads.
- Multi-selection status now reports selected row count, de-duplicated selected size and reclaimable size when applicable.
- "Repeated names" terminology is replaced in the main results workflow by clearer "Filename variants" wording.
- Simplified supporting dialogs so important choices stand out instead of being buried in explanatory copy; Naming Assistant safety is now limited to three concise bullets and the browser setup steps are formatted for scanning.

Duplicate cleanup performance choice
------------------------------------
- Full byte-for-byte re-verification immediately before recycling remains the default and recommended behavior.
- The duplicate cleanup dialog now exposes an explicit faster tree/size safety check for cases where re-hashing a huge folder or video set would take too long.
- Fast mode still checks existence, root/reparse safety and file/folder shape/lengths, but warns that a same-size content change could be missed.
- The final confirmation states which mode was selected; all cleanup still goes to Windows Recycle Bin and Activity History records the choice.

Demo / help / QA
----------------
- Built-in Help explains exact vs near/contained folders, verified ZIP extraction, installer families, Review prioritisation, row colours, reclaimable size and the full-vs-fast re-verification trade-off.
- Demo workspace now includes exact copied/renamed folders, near duplicates, containment, a verified ZIP/extracted folder and installer versions.
- Product Demo / Full Tutorial generation now shows the prioritised Review flow, confidence highlighting and comparison details.
- Mandatory regression gate expanded to 144 scenarios, including near-duplicate verification, containment, verified ZIP extraction, installer version families, fast duplicate-cleanup safety and dialog copy-density checks.
- Fixed the release-only UI-QA gate so the current 24 passing WPF checks are accepted; the gate now requires at least 24 rather than an obsolete exact count of 18, so future added checks do not falsely block packaging.
- Removed the stale hard-coded “137 automated regression scenarios” release-build status text; the harness remains the source of truth and currently runs 144 scenarios.
- Cleaned the QA nullable warning in the renamed-copy regression scenario so the QA harness builds warning-free.

==========================
- Fixed renamed Explorer-copied folders failing to collapse in Deep mode when Windows metadata such as desktop.ini or Thumbs.db differs between the two copies.
- Exact duplicate-folder identity uses the same meaningful-file policy as the regular duplicate engine: outer folder names may differ, while every non-system file must still have the same relative path, size and verified SHA-256 content.
- Strengthened regression coverage for the real workflow: “Video Making” copied to “Whatever” with differing desktop.ini metadata must still produce one exact duplicate-folder package and no cross-copy per-file flood.

Downloads Detective 0.3.15
==========================
- Deep scan verifies exact duplicate top-level folders and collapses redundant per-file duplicate rows already explained by a verified copied-folder group.
- Normal scan wording makes clear that nested files stay quiet while top-level folders are checked as packages; exact duplicate-folder groups also appear in the Folders filter.
- Renamed the unclear “Repeated names” filter to “Filename variants” and added an explanation for browser-style (1), (2), … names.
- Potential cleanup states what contributes instead of using vague “defensible cleanup signal” wording.
- Selection status shows selected row count and de-duplicated selected size.

Browser Companion move workflow
-------------------------------
- Recent completed downloads can be moved from the Downloads Detective extension with **Move original…**.
- The destination picker moves the actual file out of Downloads and removes the stale browser-history entry when possible.
- Browser Companion settings are shorter and no longer include a native-download-UI toggle.
- The extension no longer requests the unnecessary `downloads.ui` permission.
- QA verifies that browser move wording stays accurate and that the reliable Move-original path remains wired.
